Cornwall Pride 2019
How a community across an incredible duchy comes together to celebrate, protest, stand in solidarity with others and ultimately be part of the Pride movement? Is the single most important reason why Cornwall Pride exists and grows to be this shining beacon for the LGBTQ+ community here in Cornwall and the UK.
Each year we come together, each year we build stronger friendships from the last. Meet new people, discover new understandings of sexuality, gender and freedom to be yourself.
This year represents 50 years since the Stonewall Riots in New York City. Where a group of LGBTQ+ stood up for themselves and rioted against the authorities. The very next year Pride was born and today we remember these incredible people that made their voices heard and continued to protest, continued to fight for their rights and have now allowed us to be as free as we are today!
Free as we are, hate is still around us a lack of understanding and or want of acceptance. There is so much more to do in our Duchy where people, all people truly are free to express, live and love. This is why we have Pride here in Cornwall.
Pride in Cornwall doesn’t only support who we are here, we really do spread this message and this want of freedom across the South West of the UK and shines out to the World. Through this and our many other events like:
#ComeOutForCornwallPride A Pride on tour like no other that reaches out to all of Cornwall to come out for Pride. This truly does not happen anywhere else in the world, it really brings Pride to the most rural parts of our Duchy and is so very special.
Proud Eden, a LGBTQ+ arts festival created by the Eden Project bringing fantastic influential LGBTQ+ people to Cornwall again celebrating our community.
From those events and every single person here today and more, everyone working for all the organisations and the community of Newquay and more! You do something very special by helping Cornwall Pride shine as the beacon for equality and diversity across Cornwall and the South West! I genuinely hope, this moves forward pieces of recognition for Pride in Cornwall now and in the many years to come.
We stand here today to support the LGBTQ+ community in its right to exist freely and without hate here and the World.
Cornwall Pride does this with our values:
#LoveWhoYouWantToLove
#BeWhoYouWantToBe
” This isn’t just the LGBTQ+ community this means everyone ”
Be happy, be safe and enjoy your amazing day!
