Cornwall Pride CIO celebrates after receiving £272,575 in National Lottery to help the Cornwall Prides; Community Pride over 5 years.

Cornwall Pride CIO is celebrating today after being awarded £272,575 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.

Over the last 15 years Cornwall Pride has been a shining beacon of visibility and awareness of the LGBTQ+ and marginalised communities across Cornwall; however, we recognise that while visibility is important, it will take much more to make our Duchy a better place for LGBTQ+ & marginalised people to grow up, live and work in our beautiful Cornwall.

We are launching Community Pride, as we bring together the communities in pride across 10 towns and the city of Cornwall. With our community, volunteers, partners, supporters, funders, to share our values:

#LoveWhoYouWantToLove #BeWhoYouWantToBe.

50 years of Pride in the UK, 15 years of Pride in Cornwall and our first year as a charity supporting the community, brings #CommunityPride.

Cornwall Pride will use their funding over the next 5 years, to shift the focus of Pride from one weekend/day event to the grassroots, community focused local Prides that reach the rural towns of Cornwall.

This new National Lottery funding will enable Pride to be accessible to all by spanning the entire Duchy from Bude to Penzance we are giving people across Cornwall the chance to connect with their local community.

Each pride will host local charities, other inclusive service organisations, arts and heritage organisations, food and craft stall, and host a mental health hub.

National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.

Matthew Kenworthy-Gomes CEO of Cornwall Pride said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means that we can grow Cornwall Pride as it responds to the needs of the community who have greatly been impacted by the pandemic, This will make a big difference to people’s lives.”

During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK. To find out more visit www.TNLCommunityFund.org.uk
