Safer Spaces Badge

What is Safer Spaces?

Cornwall Pride’s Safer Spaces initiative helps make Cornwall a more welcoming and inclusive place for LGBTQ+ people all year round. By joining, your business or organisation commits to our Safer Spaces pledge and displays a recognisable sticker and digital badge to show your support.

The Safer Spaces sticker includes a QR code that your staff can direct people to in times of crisis, so that they can access both national and local support networks.

Why is Safer Spaces important?

With anti-LGBT+ discourse in politics and media at the moment, it is important to highlight the wonderful businesses and organisations that champion LGBT+ rights and provide a welcoming space for the LGBT+ community. By pledging to be a Safer Space, these organisations and businesses declare that they not only welcome LGBT+ people, but can help LGBT+ people in crisis through the QR code on the Safer Spaces window sticker.

What do I get as a business/organisation if I join Safer Spaces?

  • Official Safer Spaces window sticker - recognisable symbol showing your commitment to a Hate Free Cornwall.

  • Website badge - digital version for use online.

  • Public listing in Cornwall Pride’s Safer Spaces Directory - including name, logo, location, and link.

  • 20% off at the Cornwall Pride online shop - for all your staff.

  • Social media shout-out - welcome post tagging your business to introduce you to our combined almost 30k followers!

  • Access to training and support - simple guidance and resources for your staff.

  • Connection to crisis support resources - The Safer Spaces sticker has a QR code and directory link to LGBTQ+ support and crisis lines.

  • Community credibility - visible pledge demonstrates your commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion.

  • Priority updates from Cornwall Pride - invitations to Pride briefings, opportunities, and community campaigns.

How can Safer Spaces help me?

If you are an LGBT+ person in crisis, the Safer Spaces sticker identifies a physically safe space for you to be, and gives you access to local and national support via the QR code. The sticker also identifies organisations, businesses and spaces that are LGBT+-friendly all year round, and are therefore good places to spend your time and money.

What is the Safer Spaces pledge?

“As an Official Partner / Supporter of Cornwall Pride, we pledge our organisation, group or business will be a safe, welcoming, and friendly place for LGBTQ+ / marginalised members, staff, volunteers & customers.

We will visibly support and promote justice for LGBTQ+/marginalised people; have clear reporting mechanisms for harassment and discrimination; and challenge homophobic, transphobic, bi-phobic, misogynistic, racist and all phobic behaviour.

We will ensure our members, volunteers & staff are trained to understand the experiences of LGBTQ+ / marginalised people and how to be a proactive ally.”
