What is Safer Spaces?

Cornwall Pride’s Safer Spaces initiative helps make Cornwall more welcoming and inclusive for LGBTQ+ people throughout the year. Businesses and organisations that join make the Safer Spaces pledge and display a recognisable sticker and digital badge.

The sticker includes a QR code that staff can point people towards in difficult moments, giving quick access to local and national LGBTQ+ support.

Why does it matter?

Many LGBTQ+ people still have to make small safety calculations when choosing where to shop, meet friends, ask for help or spend time. A Safer Spaces sticker takes away some of that guesswork.

It shows that your organisation is prepared to welcome people properly, challenge discrimination, and help someone find support if they need it.

How can Safer Spaces help me?

If you are an LGBTQ+ person in crisis, the Safer Spaces sticker helps identify somewhere you can ask for support. The QR code gives quick access to local and national support services.

It also helps people spot organisations, businesses and spaces that are LGBTQ+-friendly all year round.

What is the Safer Spaces pledge?

“As an Official Partner / Supporter of Cornwall Pride, we pledge our organisation, group or business will be a safe, welcoming, and friendly place for LGBTQ+ / marginalised members, staff, volunteers & customers.

We will visibly support and promote justice for LGBTQ+ / marginalised people; have clear reporting mechanisms for harassment and discrimination; and challenge homophobic, transphobic, bi-phobic, misogynistic, racist and all phobic behaviour.

We will ensure our members, volunteers & staff are trained to understand the experiences of LGBTQ+ / marginalised people and how to be a proactive ally.”
